FAQs
-
All of our food products are made in-home and/or processed on the farm. Due to regulations, we are unable to sell outside the state of Oklahoma, so we don’t offer shipping. Our products are available for on-farm pickup (Norman, Oklahoma) or at a local Farmer’s Market.

When we use the term “pasture-raised,” we don’t take it lightly. You’ll see it on our chickens, turkeys, and pork, and it means the same thing to different degrees. Our animals touch grass. They drink from a pond and roam a 7-acre pasture. They take dust baths and wallow at will, only coming to the barn when they need shelter from frisky Oklahoma weather. There are times they may need their freedom temporarily tempered for their safety or the health of our pastures… but the goal is to let them live their best lives. And we believe that life is found outside, not in a big filthy building.
-
Similar to “pasture-raised,” the term “free-range” refers to living conditions. The USDA allows egg producers to use the label as long as hens have “access to the outdoors.” But for us, it means that they spend so much time outside that they rarely come home! You’ll find our layers scratching deep leaf banks along the creek, chasing bugs across the pasture, and gleefully throwing dust into the air.
-
Our animals receive the best care possible! Even the ones intended to feed our family and community are loved and handled with respect while they’re with us. When harvest day comes, we opt to process on our farm instead of transporting them to a facility, minimizing their end-of-life stress and ensuring their final moments are peaceful.

We are not certified organic at this time. That being said, our goal is to work WITH Nature rather than against Her. Using products that benefit Her benefits us in the long run! While we’re not yet at the place of purchasing all organic feed, as we feel that would be cost-prohibitive for our customers, we’re working towards growing more and more of our own animal feed. We hope to minimize input in the form of milled feed for our livestock and achieve organic certification for the garden in time.

At Petrichor Farm, our goal is to work WITH Nature. That means using management practices that promote natural resistance to disease and parasites and turning to herbal remedies as a first step when issues arise.
That being said, we believe in that caring for our animals sometimes requires more drastic intervention, and if we need to use antibiotics to eliminate suffering we will. If that happens, we’ll always give MORE time between treatment and harvest than what is traditionally called for.
We do not use hormones to bring our animals into unnatural heat cycles, promote quicker growth, or for any other reason.
